WORD COUNT
TAG SOMEONE
BY MINNIE OF GS
AND IT'S DARK ON A COLD DECEMBER,
The air is so clean here, that it’s almost uncomfortable to take a deep breath. The bus driver is asleep in his seat, but was kind enough to park in an empty field on the side of the road so you could all get out and stretch your legs. Jen seems to have taken this as an opportunity to sit on the bus steps and smoke. You open your mouth to scold her, but the solemn expression on her face tells you to give her a break.
It’s been eight days and twenty hours since you lost your school. All of the other students were taken home by people in uniforms, despite their pleading and crying. When you close your eyes, you can still hear laughing girls behind dorm doors and sneakers squeaking on wood to practice routines at all hours.
Everyone’s taking it hard in different ways, you think. Sachiko seems more out of it than ever, and the Kurobanes were clinging to each other for dear life. You brainstorm ways to get them pumped up, but always come up nearly empty handed with the simple answer of ‘give them time’. The bus driver mentioned stopping somewhere for weapons, just in case you encountered danger. You stare down at tiny hands with chipped nude polish; performing with Sirene was one thing, but would you all really have to...fight?
A lot of things still don’t make sense, but you’re sure that the girls of Blue Star would want you all to keep fighting for them. They were your biggest fans before you had earned their support, and now they were counting on Sirene. This was bigger than any of you, but you don’t know how to tell the others this yet without sounding like a fool.
You curl up by Ryo, a heavy sigh finally falling out. “Morning…” You whisper in her ear and tuck her bangs behind her ear. Everything was different now, and a bit broken, but she’s remained the same warm heart and kind smile that you’ve always relied on. Your gentle mornings with her remain unchanged.
“Dorito breakfast…”
